Cumming Ceiling Fan Installation

Steps to Replace a Ceiling Fan

  1. Turn Off Power

    • Switch off power to the fan from the circuit breaker to ensure safety. Use a voltage tester to confirm no electricity is flowing to the fan.
  2. Remove the Old Fan

    • Climb the ladder and detach the fan blades first to make the motor easier to access.
    • Unscrew the canopy cover at the ceiling to expose the wiring.
    • Disconnect the wires and carefully lower the motor.
  3. Remove the Old Mounting Bracket (if needed)

    • If the new fan comes with its own bracket, unscrew and remove the old one from the electrical box.
  4. Install the New Mounting Bracket

    • Attach the new mounting bracket to the electrical box, ensuring it’s securely fastened to support the fan’s weight.
  5. Connect the Wiring

    • Match the wires from the ceiling (typically black, white, and green/bare copper) to the corresponding wires on the new fan.
    • Use wire connectors to secure the connections (e.g., black to black, white to white, and green to the grounding wire).
  6. Attach the Fan Motor to the Bracket

    • Lift the fan motor and secure it to the mounting bracket. Some fans come with a hook to hold the motor temporarily while wiring is completed.
  7. Install the Fan Blades

    • Attach the fan blades using the provided screws. Be sure to tighten them evenly to prevent wobbling.
  8. Add the Canopy Cover and Light Fixture (if applicable)

    • Secure the canopy cover over the mounting bracket. If the fan has a light kit, follow the instructions to install it.
  9. Test the Fan

    • Restore power at the circuit breaker and test the fan and light functions to ensure everything works properly.
  10. Balance the Blades (if needed)
